Morgan County
Courthouse
The original Morgan County Courthouse was destroyed by fire
in August of 2006. The rebuilding of the courthouse has been the
subject of widespread media attention in the region including numerous
articles in the local newspapers as well as coverage by NBC television.
MCSI broke ground on the project in September 2008 and will complete
construction in the spring of 2010. The 47,000 SF three-story facility
will be fully accessible by persons with disabilities. The exterior
will feature a traditional facade with brick and stone veneer,
decorative aluminum cornice, and architectural precast elements. The
building will house civil, criminal and juvenile courtrooms, records
storage vaults, holding cells and various county offices.
In keeping with the trend towards energy efficiency, the heat source
for this facility is a geothermal heat exchange system. The building
will also have backup emergency generator capabilities in the event of
a power loss. |
